Environmental Protection
I. Purpose. This Corporate Policy is intended to affirm UTA’s commitment to protect the environment as required by law and to otherwise meet environmental safety objectives within reason and budgetary constraints, and to develop procedures and identify employee responsibilities to meet that commitment.
II. Policy.
A. Environmental Safety Statement. UTA provides multi-modal public transit services that greatly improve the quality of the environment in the communities it serves. UTA is committed to constructing its projects, and operating and maintaining its facilities and vehicles, in a manner consistent with State and federal laws and regulations and in a manner that protects human health and the environment and, at the same time, delivers quality public transit services within UTA’s financial limitations. To demonstrate that commitment, UTA will:
- Comply with federal, State, and local laws and regulations;
- Encourage and support the development of standards that encourage public transit use and environmental protection;
- Train, and raise awareness among, employees on environmental protection;
- Ensure that the design, construction, and operation of UTA facilities and services consider environmental protection;
- Develop and implement practices to encourage pollution prevention and waste minimization;
- Implement resource reduction, recycling, and reuse practices to preserve natural resources;
- Periodically review environmental protection procedures and practices to ensure that they provide effective solutions for the problems they are designed to prevent or correct;
- Recognize and encourage citizen awareness and involvement in UTA’s efforts to protect the environment; and
- Consider alternative solutions to environmental problems to ensure that the most efficient and effective solution is implemented.
